The Quest of Elements

This intermediate to advanced level quest begins with an Old Man in Ilshenar. You can find him on the second story of the old stone house just North of the Twin Oaks Tavern. This entire quest is based in Ilshenar.

What! Why do you bother an old man's slumber!

ZzzzZzzzZZZzzz

The old man opens one eye and realizes your not leaving. He shouts 'You youngsters are to be ashamed I tell you, ashamed!'

The old man suddenly jerks his head back and twitches. His eyes darken and you sense a sinister aura. He speaks without opening his mouth...
There is word there is a new evil in this world. Born to true and pure hatred. There is talk of an alliance between this new evil and the current underworld. You must stop them at whatever cost adventurer.

To do this we will need the Ancient Gem of Immortality. With this ancient gem, we can bind this evil force into which it came. There is a place of exile filled with fire, fire flows through the rocks. A stone of fire is said to be at the mouth of the heat, where the flames explode into the waters, a stone that is said to have came from Hades itself. Find this stone, bring it to me, and I will tell you more.

So you set out in search of the Stone of Fire, a place of exile filled with fire. The stone can be found at the mouth of the heat, where the flames explode into the waters. Once you find this stone, return it to the Old Man.

Why do you give me such a stone? Don't you know what this stone can...

The old man jerks his head back and screams.
His eyes darken and he speaks again without moving his mouth.

Well done, but sadly this is only a small part in finding the Gem of Immortality. We must collect all four elemental stones. Next, you must retrieve the Elemental Stone of Water. The only being who knows how to do this is Carmenta, Goddess of the Spring.

To wake her, you must go to the mushroom cave. There is a beautiful little spring with a waterfall. The spring will have a swirling mist. Throw the Stone of Fire into it. After retrieving it, if you can, bring the Elemental Stone of Water back to me.

Finding the Stone of Water isn't quite as easy as it sounds. Once you find Carmenta she will further instruct you to where you might find this Stone of Water.

Carmenta, Goddess of the Spring is the most beautiful creature you've ever seen. She floats above the water with extraordinary grace. You have a sense not to look directly into her eyes, for she is too beautiful. She speaks softly to you.

Hello adventurer, I know why you have come. I can sense that you have good intentions, so I will help you anyway.

You pause for a second, wondering why she talked of good intentions and helping you *anyway*.

You seek the Elemental Stone of Water. It lies at the end of a river, surrounded on all sides by mountains. At the end of this river there will be a dam. Just before the dam, there is an small inlet, which has a small beach. The Guardian of Water awaits to protect anyone not deserving of the stone from it. Give him the Stone of Fire to have him judge you. To get to this inlet, go to the passage of the Serpentine Dragons. A magical source will teleport you to the Guardian's coastal refuge. You will need to figure out the secret word of passage. I believe the word is one of fine water, Fina? hmmm... Aquafine? hmmm...I cannot remember, but do not faulter adventurer, I know you can do this.

To find the magical source that will teleport you to the Water Guardian you will need to venture out to the passage of the Serpentine Dragon. Figure out the password and you will be teleported right to the Water Guardian. Give the Stone of Fire to the Water Guardian so that he may judge you.

Upon receiving the Stone of Water, return again to the Old Man for further instruction.

Why do you give me such a stone? Don't you know what this stone can...

The old man jerks his head back and screams. His eyes darken and he speaks again without moving his mouth.

This is it! This is the Stone of Water! Well done adventurer, you are almost done, only two more stones lie before you. Next is the Elemental Stone of Earth. The dwarves that held this are long extinct, however, it is said that a great champion of the dwarves still haunts a cavern. I believe this cavern lies west of Lakeshire. Find him and show him your stones. Retrieve the Elemental Stone of Earth, and bring it back to me. Good luck adventurer.

Find the dwarven ghost and he will tell you where you can get the Stone of Earth.

Arrrrrrrrhhhh. Bruenor snarls at you. You can see the rage in his eyes. For a second though, you can see sadness as well. You pull out the stones of Fire and Water.

Bruenor calms down and stares at the stones. A peacefulness comes over you, and he grins. He speaks to you with his old dwarven tongue, but somehow you understand it. Those are the elemental stones adventurer, I suspect you seek the Stone of Earth. However, I cannot just give it to you. For you see, I am a ghost. I was a great champion and protector of my clan. It was my responsibility to protect us from the ophidians, but in the end I failed. And for that I am bound to vengeance, until I can bring honor back to my clan. Slay these ophidians, bring me back the Dwarven Clan Oath, and you will have your Stone of Earth.

Slay the ophidians and return the Dwarven Clan Oath to Bruenor and you shall receive the Stone of Earth.

Return with the Stone of Earth to the Old Man so he can tell you where to find the Stone of Wind

Why do you give me such a stone? Don't you know what this stone can...

The old man jerks his head back and screams.

His eyes darken and he speaks again without moving his mouth. Ah, the Elemental Stone of Earth. You are indeed quite a hero. Only one more stone lies in your path. The Stone of Wind. All I know about this stone is that there is a very old man that is said to have been seen at Terort Skitas.
He would be the only man who would know where it can be located. Find him and show him one of your elemental stone. I know you can do it adventurer, our future depends on you.

Find the old man, last seen at Terort Skitas so that he may help you find the Stone of Wind.

Vargus looks at you, seemingly unsure if you are real, or just an illusion.

You approach him cautiously, due to the bewildered look about him. You introduce yourself and get right to the point. Where is the Stone of Wind? He stands motionless, so you decide to wait...

After three hours of silence, Vargus decides that you are real.
I know why you have come adventurer. And I know what lies ahead. I am Vargus, Keeper of Dragons. I am eight hundred years old, older than any dragon currently living. I myself was once a dragon, although that is another tale. I have not seen a human in many years. How you have gotten here, I don't know. But just by getting here, you have passed the test of flight. The stone you seek is in Lakeshire. East of the Tavern you will come to a passage into the mountain. An ancient race of dragons once lived there, I believe the Stone of Wind is buried under a nest. However, there is an evil spell cast on that site. You will need this special pick. Because of this spell, you may encounter creatures. But don't be discouraged adventurer, you can find it.

Take your Ancient Hammer Pick to the mountain passage and dig around the nests there to find the Stone of Air.

Once you have retrieved the Stone of Air return to the Old Man for your last task.

Why do you give me such a stone? Don't you know what this stone can...

The old man jerks his head back and screams. His eyes darken and he speaks again without moving his mouth.

You have done it! You have collected all four of the elemental stones! You have succeeded where others have failed. However, there is one last thing you must do. Go to Montor and find the Elemental Forge. Forge the Elemental Stones together to make the Staff of the Elements. With this staff we can summon the Gem of Immortality. Make haste and bring it back to me.

Go to Montor and find the Elemental Forge. Be sure to have all four stones in your pack and use the forge to make the Staff of Elements. Return the Staff of Elements to the Old man.

*Note* This quest MUST be done in sequence or it will not work!
Do not attempt to skip steps or you will not be successful.
